All eyes should be on the bride on her wedding day. Which is why not wearing white is the cardinal rule of wedding guest attire. So, it should go without saying that wearing a wedding dress to someone else's nuptials is a big no-no.

However, one wedding guest posted on Reddit that she would be rewearing her dress to an upcoming ceremony she was attending. Before any rule-abiding bridesmaids get worked up, it's not what you think. User yr_momma posted on the r/Weddingattireapproval subreddit looking for advice: she would be attending the nuptials of her husband's friend, and his fiancée requested that former brides come to their special day wearing their own wedding dress. However, she was afraid that she would be the only one to partake in the dress code, making her stand out and look like an inconsiderate guest.

One guest rewore her own wedding dress to her friend's nuptials.

"I have my wedding dress, and it fits. It's comfy and perfect for an outdoor summer event... I don't know what else I would wear really as I don't have a very limited (and worn) wardrobe aside from this and one other dress that was for a black tie event," she explained alongside a mirror photo of herself wearing the boho-style white lace dress. "I worry I would be the only one to do this and get looks from the (very large) crowd, so it kinda feels like a trap...but it's also literally in the wedding website sooo I kinda wanna do it to honour the request as also it's the comfiest public-facing garment I own."

The bride asked guests to rewear their wedding dresses.

She continued to share some context about her relationship with the couple, noting that her husband has been friends with the groom for more than 25 years, though, she had not met either.

"I dunno I want to but I worry people could be kinda brutal about it if I do?," she asked the Reddit community. "Am I too in my head about this? My friends say I should just do it and if anyone has a problem with it, that's their issue not mine."

After receiving hundreds of comments encouraging her to go for it, yr_momma shared a follow-up post with a photo of how she styled the look on the day. In the selfie, she wore the tiered maxidress with a gray cami, a forest green cardigan, and tan flats.

"I wore my wedding dress to the solstice wedding in Devon! Thanks to this sub for allaying my severe social anxiety around the decision," she explained. "I styled it like so with pops of green, added some green and brown beaded necklaces, rocked some camel colored flats and my camel colored bag. It all vibed with the lush greens of the farm, its woodlands, and the hilly Devon landscape."

She added that at least more than a dozen people showed up in bridal gowns—including a few men and divorcees. Overall, the bride's quirky request made the day extremely special. "Some accessorized very bridal while others dressed it down a bit like I did. One wore a flower crown as commenters suggested I should do," she wrote. "Some guests wore shorts and tee shirts, some wore medieval dress [sic] and looked like they walked straight out of a renaissance festival. There were also corsets, fishnets, and goat horns, and everything in between. It was very come-as-you-are and everyone came as their authentic selves to create a really special event. There was much music and merry making, including by the talented bride, and the whole event felt like hanging out for an evening in the happiest chapter of a fairy tale. Absolutely magical!"

She ended up not being the only guest to show up in a wedding dress.

The bride—who "wore a black-and-white gown, with black floral appliqués on the bodice spreading down onto the ruffled skirt" before changing into a "smart and elegant white silk pantsuit"—and groom were also very "amused" to hear that the guest's original Reddit post had gone viral. The bride also revealed that the motivation behind the dress code was for her guests to just have fun.

"Her thinking was that wedding dresses are fun, beautiful, joyous and unique and should get worn for happy and beautiful celebrations," yr_momma wrote. "It's sad to let them sit never to be worn again! I love her very "unserious" (her word not mine) approach to it all."
