The Green Bay Packers are dealing with an injury to their starting quarterback less than a month before the 2025 NFL season begins.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst announced Tuesday that Jordan Love is dealing with a ligament issue in his left thumb. Gutekunst said the injury occurred during the team's Saturday preseason game against the New York Jets, when Love banged his hand on a helmet.
The quarterback had previously been spotted with his thumb taped up at Monday's practice. He did not miss any plays during the session, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Love will have surgery to fix his injured thumb. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Love isn't expected to be sidelined long by the injury. Gutekunst said the team is hoping he will return to practice next week, and the team expects the 26-year-old to be ready for Week 1.
"[He] shouldn't miss any regular-season time," Gutekunst said.
Who is Jordan Love's backup?
As long as Love remains sidelined, Malik Willis will be the Packers' top quarterback. The 26-year-old was a third-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft and was traded to the Packers before the 2024 NFL season.
Willis made two starts during his first season in Green Bay. The Liberty product went 2-0 while completing 74.1% of his passes for 550 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 138 yards and a touchdown on 20 scrambles.
