Dacre Montgomery, who played Billy Hargrove on Stranger Things, says he will watch the final season of the hit Netflix series from home
The actor reflected on his time playing Billy, saying, "it's amazing to play a character that so many people connected with"
Montgomery also shared what he's most eager to see when it comes to the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, and actress Sadie Sink, who played his half-sister Max Mayfield
Dacre Montgomery is looking forward to seeing the final chapter of Stranger Things.
Unlike past seasons, where he stepped into the role of Billy Hargrove, the 30-year-old actor tells PEOPLE that he plans to experience the Netflix hit’s final season like any other fan — watching from the comfort of his home.
“I'm kind of in my own little bubble over in Australia where I live, so [I’ll] occasionally text with a few of the cast members,” Montgomery says. “But honestly, it feels like it's been so long now that I've been kind of out of the swing of things, and then COVID and all kinds of stuff.”
“But I'm excited to watch the last season. I really am,” he adds.

When asked what he’s most looking forward to, Montgomery says it’s seeing what’s next for Stranger Things creators and directors the Duffer Brothers, whom he describes as “really great mentors.”

“With Stranger Things coming to an end, I'm actually really excited to see — because I know they have so many other amazing ideas and they've been in [the] Stranger Things world for a decade — I'm really excited to see what they do outside of that,” Montgomery explains.
“That to me is the most exciting part now that it's coming to an end,” he continues. “They're going to have bandwidth to be able to do a new show, and that's really exciting, I think.”
His enthusiasm for the future isn’t limited to just the creators — Montgomery says he’s equally excited to see what his co-star Sadie Sink, 23, who plays his half-sister Max Mayfield, does next.

“I'm really excited to just see Sadie's career because she's such a talented actress and she's so hardworking and she's got a lot of other amazing characters and roles outside of Stranger Things,” he says.
“So I'm really excited to see where she goes just in general in her career. I think she's going to have an amazing career,” he adds.
The actor, who stars in the new indie film Went Up the Hill, also reflected on his journey with the show and what it meant to him to bring his character Billy to life.

“I think it's amazing to play a character that so many people connected with, felt like they knew someone that was similar, loved the show and loved that character, or even hated that character,” he explains.
“It was all just good fan energy, I guess,” he adds. “And that was really exciting for me to be a part of— something so big and culturally right in the 21st century — to be a part of something that people really, really enjoyed.”
Vol. 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 is set to release on Netflix on Nov. 26.
